What Is Inner Truth? Understanding Your Authentic Self
Inner truth is your authentic self—the unchanging, infinite essence within you that knows your soul's calling. As we discussed in the podcast, it's that inner knowing that comes from deep within, beyond the thinking mind and external influences. "For me," as Jamie shared, "inner truth gets so much more juicy than just truth. We tend to live our lives from a place of honoring our own inner truth... constantly seeking, looking inwards, finding, discovering whatever is being impulsed or inspired through us authentically from the inside out."
For us, inner truth seekers are those who have a sincere desire to follow whatever impulses are coming through authentically from the inside out. It's not just about knowing that inner truth exists—it's about actively seeking it and allowing it to guide your life.
Inner truth means:
The unique expression of divine intelligence flowing through you
Your soul's authentic blueprint for this incarnation
The inner compass that guides you toward your highest purpose
A deeply personal knowing that transcends external opinions
The recognition that you are a unique individuation of God, the divine, source, or infinite creator
As Michael explained, "There is a soul experience here. My soul's having an experience. There's a soul blueprint... and I'm the only person—me and infinity, God, one consciousness, whatever you want to call it—know that plan."
How to Find Your Inner Truth: The Journey Begins Within
Finding your inner truth starts with a simple yet profound practice. As we shared in our conversation, it begins with closing your eyes and taking your attention away from your thoughts, bringing it down into your heart. You don't need to understand exactly what this means—just feel into it. "Close your eyes," Jamie instructed during our conversation. "Take your attention away from your thoughts and bring it down into your heart. Even when I say that, you don't have to know what that means. I promise you. When I say bring your attention from your head to your heart, that just means we're taking it away from the thinking mind and we're bringing it to a place of love."
Here's how to start connecting with your inner truth:
Create stillness - Set aside 5-30 minutes for conscious inner practice
Shift from head to heart - Move your attention from thinking to feeling
Listen without judgment - Allow insights to arise without forcing
Trust what emerges - Honor the impulses and knowings that come through
Take inspired action - Follow through on what feels authentically true
Stay consistent - Make this a daily practice, not a one-time event
Release attachment - Let go of what insights "should" look like
Remember, as we emphasized in the episode, anyone can access their inner truth through practices like meditation, contemplation, or simply getting quiet and tuning into the heart. If you sit for five minutes consciously devoted to your inner experience, you might have two or three insights. If you sit for 30 minutes, you might emerge with many more awarenesses, insights, and inspirations.
What Does Inner Truth Mean in Daily Life?
Inner truth isn't just a spiritual concept—it's a practical guide for navigating every aspect of your life. In our discussion, we explored how inner truth shows up in:
Personal decisions - Choosing paths that align with your authentic self rather than what others expect
Relationships - Honoring both your truth and others' perspectives without needing agreement on it
Professional life - Expressing your soul's calling through your work, whether as an employee or entrepreneur
Creative expression - Allowing your unique gifts to flow freely without censoring yourself
Daily choices - From what to eat to how to spend your time, letting inner guidance lead
As we've discovered in our own lives, following your inner truth often means going against the grain of mainstream consciousness. It requires courage to trust your inner authority over outer authorities. Michael shared how this showed up in his life: "I can look back at different points in my life... when I left home, when I got my scholarship to go and play rugby, when I left all my friends, when I went and traveled the world, when I came to Peru. All these different types of things, there's just so many choices that I can look back and go, that was my inner truth, inviting me to step more into it."
What Is My Inner Truth? Recognizing Your Authentic Voice
One of the most common questions we receive is "What is my inner truth?" The answer is deeply personal and can only be discovered through your own inner inquiry. However, there are clear signs that help you recognize when you're aligned with your truth:
Signs you're following your inner truth:
A sense of expansion and possibility
Feeling energized rather than drained
Peace even in challenging circumstances
Synchronicities and flow states increase
Decisions feel "right" even if they're difficult
You feel more like yourself than ever before
As Jamie noted, "When things come through me, I can't not recognize them. I can't not be aware of them. I can't not consider them. I can't not work with them or try to be in flow with them."
How to Find Inner Truth When External Voices Are Loud
One of the biggest challenges in finding your inner truth is distinguishing it from external influences. As we discussed, the opposite of inner truth is what we jokingly call "outer falsity"—blindly following others' opinions, perspectives, or judgments. "The ears hear a lot of voices," Jamie explained, "and sometimes there's a lot of voices around us. It could be friends, it could be family, it could be partners, it could be anything. It could be the collective, it could be a political party... When we hear all those voices, what we should or shouldn't be doing, what we should or shouldn't be thinking, that would be the opposite of following inner truth."
Signs you're not following your inner truth:
People-pleasing at the expense of your authenticity
Making decisions based solely on others' expectations
Feeling disconnected from your choices
Experiencing inner resistance or suffering
Conforming to roles that don't fit who you truly are
Following rules or traditions that no longer resonate
Ignoring your intuition to fit in with a group
Michael shared his personal experience with this: "One of the things that I noticed that was one of my defense mechanisms as a kid to feel safe was to just do what the group was doing, so that I would fit in." The key is developing discernment—learning to recognize which voices come from within versus which come from outside influences like family, culture, or society.
Inner Truth Meaning: Beyond Fixed Beliefs
One crucial insight from our conversation is that inner truth evolves. What felt deeply true five years ago may no longer resonate today. This is why we call ourselves inner truth seekers—it's an ongoing journey, not a destination. "Things that were true for me from the depths of my heart and soul five years ago, 10 years ago, 15 years ago, have changed," Jamie reflected. "Six months ago, nine months ago. This is why we've transformed our work into Inner Truth Seekers—because we've recognized that the things that, the ways we were working or the things we were focusing on, while valuable and important and beneficial at the time, no longer resonated." Your inner truth is not static. Just as seasons change and life continues to flourish, your inner truth transforms as you grow. This can sometimes involve a grieving process as you release what no longer serves, making space for new authentic expressions to emerge.
The Pitfalls of Spiritual Authority and "Burning Bush" Moments
During our conversation, we explored an important pitfall in spiritual seeking—what we call the "burning bush moment" syndrome. This happens when someone has a profound spiritual experience and then believes everyone else must follow the same path. "Moses goes and sees the burning bush," Michael explained. "He's then had these 10 commandments... basically had a vision or has had a direct communication in his words... with God. And I've received these 10 Commandments and now everyone has to do it." This pattern shows up everywhere:
Spiritual traditions claiming the "one true way"
Marketing tactics saying "this is how you must run your business"
Plant medicine communities insisting on specific protocols for spiritual connection
Any system that says "if you don't do this, you won't succeed"
The truth is, everyone's burning bush moments are unique. As Jamie noted, "If you sit for five minutes consciously devoted to your own inner experience, you might have two or three insights or awarenesses. If we say, that's it. I had my one a-ha moment. The burning bush told me this thing. I'm done... we're missing the point because five seconds later, we might have another inner truth awareness that might arise."
Spiritual Sovereignty: The Foundation of Inner Truth Seeking
A core principle we emphasize is spiritual sovereignty—the recognition that you are the ultimate authority on what's true for you. This doesn't mean ignoring wisdom or guidance from others, but rather using your inner truth as the final filter. "We know that these podcasts and all the work we do, that they're meant to inspire you to recognize or remember something that you already know," Jamie explained. "We trust that every person listening and every person that we work with has the ability to have discernment and be clear for themselves."
This is why we always say: Don't believe everything we say. Take what resonates, leave what doesn't. We have no attachment to the outcome in our work. What comes through will be meant for some people and not for others, and we're okay with that.
Frequently Asked Questions About Inner Truth
Q: What is inner truth in simple terms? A: Inner truth is your authentic knowing that comes from within—your soul's unique expression and guidance system that exists beyond external opinions or societal expectations. It's the part of you that knows your true purpose and path.
Q: How do I know if I'm following my inner truth? A: You'll feel aligned, energized, and at peace with your decisions. There's a sense of alignment even if the path is challenging. When you ignore your inner truth, you often experience inner resistance, suffering, or a feeling that something is "off."
Q: Can inner truth change over time? A: Absolutely. Inner truth evolves as you grow and transform. What feels true at one stage of life may shift as you evolve. This is why staying connected to your inner truth is a lifelong practice, not a one-time discovery.
Q: What's the difference between inner truth and ego? A: Inner truth comes from a place of love and authentic knowing beyond the thinking mind. Ego often stems from fear, comparison, or the need to be right. Inner truth feels expansive and inclusive; ego feels contracted and defensive.
Q: How can I trust my inner truth? A: Start with small decisions and notice how following your inner knowing feels versus ignoring it. Build trust through practice. Remember, you have the ability to discern what's true for you—trust yourself to be the final filter.
Q: What if my inner truth conflicts with my family's expectations? A: This is one of the most challenging aspects of inner truth seeking. Honor that your family has their own truths while staying committed to yours. You can respect their perspective without abandoning your authentic path. Sometimes this means setting loving boundaries.
Q: How is inner truth different from intuition? A: Inner truth and intuition are closely related. Intuition is often the voice or sensing mechanism of your inner truth. Your inner truth is the deeper knowing of who you are and why you're here, while intuition is how that knowing communicates with you moment to moment.
Your Inner Truth Journey Starts Now

It requires courage to go against external expectations and trust your inner knowing.
